About The Athlete
Geoff joined CFC summer 2017 looking for something safe, challenging and of a reasonable time commitment to compliment his family and work life outside of the gym. He’s since become a staple personality around CFC and regular contender for score of the day on our leaderboards. The energy, focus and coach-ability he’s brought since day one and continues to bring every class embodies the CFC spirit.
Beyond his humble and easy-going attitude, Geoff’s progress in strength and aerobic capacity the last 6-months has sky-rocketed and often sets the tone and pace for the day in our 6am classes… particularly if there’s an Assault Bike or Running in the workout. Geoff Is Beast! And we, as a coaching team, could not be more excited to be a part of his progress and continuation of his fitness, exercise and life goals in or outside the gym. Congrats Geoff! Keep up the great work.
What got you into crossfit and what keeps you coming back?
I have been doing Crossfit for almost one year now, and am just beginning to feel like some things, are coming together. I previously worked out on my own, however soon became bored with this and plateaued. The people, comradery, and and obv exc coaching keeps me coming back.
What are some of your non-crossfit hobbies or activities?
Most of my time outside of crossfit is spent being an active father, a role I find immense pleasure in. Also, completing my residency is an obvious time consumer. Otherwise, I love snowboarding when opportunity strikes, looking for golf balls in the woods, traveling to exotic local, cross country skiing, camping, cooking, and tasting scotch.
One sentence to describe CFC from your perspective…
A dynamic environment were relationships flourish and are strengthened along side our bodies.
What is your favorite part of CFC?
Apart from number 3, it is also close to my home.
Favorite and least favorite movement/workout, and why?
I like rowing and the bike, my lankiness does not get in the way. I dislike wall slides, they hurt and I feel like I’m always doing them.
Favorite superhero, band/musician or celebrity, and why?
My favourite band/musician is Bon Iver. He’s from the Midwest and makes music with big beautiful sounds. Superhero – Superman. I don’t care about celebrity’s, but it is also crazy that Ariana Grande is engaged to Pete Davidson and I really like Meghan Markel and and whats up with Will Smith doing this dance on that bridge and I guess I do care.
Biggest/proudest/latest accomplishment or PR?
I am most proud to be able to inconsistently do muscle ups
What’s your take on our coaching team?
You are all wonderful and bring different aspects of your personalities to the work outs which makes every work out fun, interesting, and different. Its just that.. those damn wall slides.
Do you have any goals set for the near future – in or outside of CFC?
Pass my Royal College Exam, this is in May.
Give us a little known fact about yourself…
I was born in Reno Nevada and grew up in Duluth Minnesota, which means I have duo citizenship, which is the worst. I can also touch my toes, with very little bend in my knees, but despite this astounding flexibility, I am unable to bend my fingers back past straight.
Coaches Comments
Geoffrey has been awesome to have at CFC. He has a super positive attitude and believe it or not is really easy to talk to about fitness diet or really anything under the sun. He is fierce when attacking a metcon and his engine is incredible. He’s strength is improving and he is really understanding Olympic style lifting. He usually has a strategy when it comes to the workouts but is open to some coaching suggestions. Keep up all the hard work because you are heading in the best direction, which is being heathy. – Coach Jason
Geoff’s stamina is so impressive. He makes me want to be better at cardio. The top Geoff highlight for me were his 150 unbroken kettlebell swings. Plus he is a delight to coach at 6am. Well deserved athlete of the month! – Coach Michelle
Intelligent, determined and down-right hilarious… This is the dangerous stew Geoff stirs up for breakfast every morning right before coming in and destroying the met-con. I’m regularly impressed with his capacity and willingness to dance on the edge of high-performance and utter exhaustion.
Since day one (and I imagine all throughout his life) Geoff’s curiosity has been his strength. Constantly asking “why”, “what’s the purpose” behind a movement, technical suggestion or workout and as a coach, owner and programmer I absolutely love this. Not only does it display a thirst for knowledge / understanding but also for in how to apply it and challenge the foundation of a principle or workout. It keeps the coach and program honest, as it should be.
We also share a passion for incredible music and fashion. He’s solely responsible for my new found fascination with JEDI MIND TRICKS and desire to wear better hats and one day grow a mustache. You won’t find many out there as humble, clever and fit as Geoff. Incredible great-full he’s apart of our community. – Coach Taylor
Geoff…. pronounced “Jeff” and not to be misspelled (made that mistake once). Geoff loves to give me a hard time but always does so with a smile (so I guess that helps?). He has improved immensely since the beginning of his crossfit journey – strength, the quality of his movement, as well as his mobility (definitely all those wall slides eh Geoff?). If only his listening skills were also on the up..haha.
He’s so hardcore now that he even has to tie his luscious locks back so as to optimize his performance (those damn fly-aways..).
All jokes aside.. Geoff is a great person to have in the gym. He has great energy and is always ready to give it his all – definitely one of my favourites to have in class! His ability to absolutely demolish any assault bike wod is impressive, he’s also the fastest KB swinger I’ve ever seen..
Great work Geoff – you rock.! – Coach Steph
I haven’t had the pleasure to coach Geoff very much as he’s usually in the 6am class, and that’s just an hour that I’m not too familiar with. I do know just by looking at the leaderboard and the IG stories that he’s in, that he’s an absolute beast. He crushes any metcon that is heavily focused on conditioning. Congrats on athlete of the month Geoff, now let’s get you into more barbell classes! – Coach Shane
Sincerely,
The CFC Coaching Team
